In his time with the legendary organisation, Jame has cultivated a frustrating, suffocating, unique brand of Counter-Strike that serves as the logical conclusion to the ‘perfect’ Counter-Strike first developed by Astralis in 2018. Virtus.pro may have stumbled at IEM Katowice 2024, but the former Outsiders IEM Rio Major winning core are inevitable. Whether that’s teams we think wouldn’t be too surprising if they take home the trophy or will just have surprisingly good runs, we’ve selected five teams we consider to be dark horses for the event. Now that we’re just days away from the very first CS2 Major, the PGL Copenhagen Major, we thought it would be a good time to look at the teams that could be considered dark horses for the event. The playoffs were an even 50/50 split between tier one favorites and tier two underdogs, and the event became symbolic of the inevitable changing of the guard that would be ushered in with the transition to Counter-Strike 2. The final CS:GO Major, the Paris Major, continued this trend. In 2017, Zeus and Gambit wrote their names into the history books by winning PGL Krakow and six months later, Cloud9 endured one of the most legendary Major runs of all time to claim the ELEAGUE Boston crown. Counter-Strike Majors have always been a place where dark horses have found the light.
